According to the Daily Monitor, radio news anchor John Charles Namayindi, standing as an independent, won the Busia District chairperson race with 38,194 votes against 28,707 for the incumbent NRM flag bearer Stephen Mugeni Wasike. Wasike rejected the result, alleging possible ballot stuffing because more votes were cast for chairperson than for women councillors, and said he would go to court. The district returning officer said the votes were valid and the process transparent.
Disputed: Wasike alleges possible ballot stuffing and irregularities, while Busia District Returning Officer Joan Aduru says the votes cast were valid and the process transparent.
