Jinja City authorities evict street traders and remove illegal structures under new trade order

Policy & Legislation Verified Jinja Apr 2026 (day not reported) Severity: 3/5

Jinja City authorities are enforcing a trade order that removes traders from spaces classified as illegal or road reserves across divisions, including Jinja Northern and Southern divisions and along highways and trading centres, according to the Daily Monitor. Local leaders and a business association said traders were evicted without clear relocation alternatives, and a former LC III chairperson criticised the use of force. City council spokesperson Rajab Kito said notices had been issued over two and a half years and the operation enforces planning regulations.
