According to URN, Minister of State for Local Government Balaam Barugahara used posts on X to call for an investigation into a collapsed bridge linking Nsambwe in Mukono Municipality with villages in Nama Sub-county, saying he would establish whether funds had been allocated and seek accountability. Residents said they had been stranded since the collapse, while Mukono District and Nama Sub-county leaders disputed which authority is responsible for the road. Residents also alleged that district technical officials demanded money before allowing a private benefactor to continue repairs.
Disputed: Nama Sub-county councillors say Mukono District has always maintained the road, while residents were told by the district that responsibility had moved to the sub-county; accounts also differ on whether the bridge collapsed about three weeks ago or has been impassable for about two and a half years.
