A 50-year-old farmer died hours after he was allegedly taken from his home in Namugondi Town Council by three UPDF soldiers attached to the National Forest Authority and beaten in Busitema Forest Reserve, according to his son and widow; the son said he was also beaten. The NFA sector manager said the soldiers beat him after finding him burning charcoal in the forest but that NFA did not sanction it, and Busia police said they were investigating and coordinating with NFA to identify the suspects.
Disputed: The NFA sector manager says the man was found burning charcoal inside the forest, while his son and widow say he was taken from his home and was never involved in charcoal burning.
