Masaka chief magistrate declares NRM's Justine Nameere Masaka City Woman MP after vote recount

Justice & Court Rulings Disputed Masaka 2026 (month not reported) Severity: 2/5

According to ChimpReports, Masaka Chief Magistrate Albert Asiimwe ordered a recount on a petition by NRM candidate Justine Nameere and, after a four-day recount, declared her winner of the Masaka City Woman MP seat, which the Electoral Commission had awarded to NUP's Rose Nalubowa. The recount gave Nameere 25,502 votes and Nalubowa 23,176. Nalubowa's team argued the recount total of 60,735 candidate votes exceeded the 59,499 total votes the Electoral Commission announced on January 15.

Disputed: Nalubowa's team says the recount figures (60,735 candidate votes) cannot be reconciled with the Electoral Commission's announced total of 59,499 votes cast and cited unsealed and tampered ballot boxes; the recount declared Nameere the winner.
