Masaka High Court dismisses NRM candidate's petition against Kalungu Woman MP Aisha Ssekindi

Justice Bernard Namanya of the High Court in Masaka dismissed NRM candidate Hellen Nakeya's petition against the election of State Minister for Water Aisha Ssekindi as Kalungu District Woman MP. The court found that serious incidents occurred, including the killing of two of Nakeya's supporters in an incident involving a police officer guarding Ssekindi's residence, an assault on a polling agent and pre-marked dummy ballots, but held they were not shown to be linked to Ssekindi or to have substantially affected the result. The judge criticised the Electoral Commission's handling of the incidents and ordered each party to bear its own costs.
