Masaka High Court judge declines to recuse himself from NUP candidate's challenge to Woman MP recount

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Masaka 11 Feb 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to The Independent, Acting High Court Judge Simon Peter Kinobe declined a request by lawyers for NUP candidate Rose Nalubowa that he step aside from hearing her revision application against the Masaka City Woman MP recount, which led to NRM's Justine Nameere being declared winner. Her lawyers argued that his past participation in NRM primaries and public activism suggested bias; the judge said past association was not enough and promised a detailed ruling later. Nalubowa's lawyers filed the application on 2 February 2026, alleging procedural irregularities in the Chief Magistrate's recount.
