Mbale High Court schedules Kibuku MP election petition, rejects bid to strike out qualification claims

Justice Issa Sserunkuma of the High Court in Mbale set 1 October 2026 for hearing NRM candidate Charles Tamwenya's petition against the election of independent Kibuku County MP Herbert Kinobere, which alleges bribery, intimidation and falsified returns. The judge rejected the respondent's request to strike out claims about academic qualifications, limited cross-examination to 90 minutes and gave the petitioner five days to answer 53 affidavits. Kinobere's lawyer Geoffrey Kandebe called the allegations baseless.
