ChimpReports reports that a military police officer guarding Busia Municipality MP Godfrey Macho was shot dead in his car outside a church while the MP was at prayers, by three men who came on a motorcycle. The MP said police flying squad officers were behind the attack and wanted him dead; Defence spokesperson Brig. Flavia Byekwaso said police constables who fired had said they mistook the car for one used by suspected smugglers, and questioned why they shot.
Disputed: MP Macho says police flying squad officers targeted him, while the Defence spokesperson says police constables shot the escort in a case of mistaken identity while trailing suspected smugglers.
