NEMA and Ministry of Water and Environment arrest investor over alleged wetland filling in Jinja City

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) said it arrested investor Magan Patel in a joint operation with the Ministry of Water and Environment in Jinja City over alleged illegal activities in a wetland. According to the Daily Monitor, fish farmers and gardeners had complained that soil was dumped into their ponds and gardens in Budumbuli Wetland without notice; one farmer alleged more than 2,000 truckloads were dumped over more than two weeks. NEMA said Patel was expected to appear in court later in the week.
