The National Environment Management Authority ordered Siia Fusion Uganda Limited to stop operations after residents complained that emissions from the plant were linked to the deaths of cattle, crop damage and health risks. NEMA said its inspection found no proper handling of lead ash and hazardous waste, inadequate pollution controls and PM2.5 readings of 112 µg/m³ against a 35 µg/m³ limit, and that the firm breached its ESIA certificate conditions.
