Police led by Rwenzori East Region Police Commander Samuel Asiimwe sealed off the Kilembe quarters venue and stopped Democratic Party presidential candidate Norbert Mao from addressing a waiting crowd, The Independent reported. Asiimwe said campaigning time had ended and took the microphone from Mao, who arrived at 5:55 PM; Mao said police were deployed against him because of his message.
Disputed: Police said the rally was blocked because campaign hours had ended, while Mao and local DP leaders said the action was targeted and that other candidates campaign until 7 PM.
