Polling opens late in Busia Municipality as officials wait for minimum voters in local council elections

Election Related Verified Busia 27 Jan 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to the Daily Monitor, voting in Busia Municipality's mayoral and local council elections started late at many polling stations because officials could not gather the ten voters the law requires to witness the opening of ballot boxes. One presiding officer said his team waited nearly three hours. Election officials said biometric verification kits worked properly, while an unnamed technician attributed delays to the internet shutdown.
