Residents in Mukono protest marijuana cultivation by Zombo CAO in Zirimiti Central Forest Reserve

Protest & Civil Unrest Disputed Mukono Oct 2025 (day not reported) Severity: 2/5

Residents of Saayi Village, Kisoga-Ntenjeru Town Council, protested against the cultivation of marijuana on about 17 acres of Zirimiti Central Forest Reserve by Zombo District CAO Robert Abenaitwe, according to Nile Post. Abenaitwe told a meeting with security and NFA officials that the cultivation was licensed, while an NFA officer said the land was leased for tree planting only and that the matter was under investigation. Residents also complained of armed guards, and one farmer said guards shot his goats.

Disputed: Abenaitwe says the cultivation is licensed and legal, while the NFA says the land was leased only for afforestation and is investigating.
