Rukungiri Municipality demolishes structures on road reserves while enforcing trade order

According to the Daily Monitor, on Thursday bulldozers under heavy security pulled down structures on road reserves and dilapidated or temporary buildings in Rukungiri Municipality, from Ntugamo Stage along Independence Road. Affected owners said their structures had been approved by the municipal planning office or had not been marked, while the Municipal Physical Planner said everyone had been notified and given time, and that about 70% had moved voluntarily. Officials said the operation would run for five days.
