Local Government Minister orders halt to construction on contested government land in Tororo

During an inspection of public land in Tororo, Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi ordered an immediate halt to construction on government land said to be encroached, including plots 18–25 in Tororo town that officials say belonged to Tororo Central Market. According to the Daily Monitor, the land is alleged to have been grabbed by former Tororo Municipality MP Yeri Apollo Ofwono; the minister directed police to stop construction and said fraudulently obtained titles would be cancelled.
