Local Government PS orders repossession of stalls from defaulting vendors at Tororo Modern Central Market

Policy & Legislation Verified Tororo Aug 2026 (day not reported) Severity: 1/5

During an oversight visit, Ministry of Local Government Permanent Secretary Ben Kumumanya directed urban authorities to repossess stalls held by vendors with rent arrears said to total over Shs585 million, according to the Daily Monitor. He rejected the vendors' petition to write off the debt, saying the market was built with an African Development Bank loan that must be repaid, while indicating that rent for lock-up shops may be cut by Shs10,000.
