Masaka court allows Sempijja's Kalungu East vote recount application to proceed

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Masaka 22 Jan 2026 Severity: 1/5

Former Defence Minister Vincent Sempijja asked the Masaka Chief Magistrate's Court for a recount of the 15 January Kalungu East parliamentary vote. His lawyer said Declaration of Results forms showed unreconciled discrepancies, while lawyers for the declared winner, NUP's Yusuf Kiruluuta Nkeretaanyi, argued the forms were uncertified and the court lacked jurisdiction. According to the Daily Monitor, Chief Magistrate Herbert Asiimwe ruled the matter was properly before the court and adjourned to 27 January for a decision on the recount.
