Tororo court defers Woman MP vote recount to 27 January over broken ballot box seals

Justice & Court Rulings Disputed Tororo 24 Jan 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Daily Monitor reports that the Chief Magistrate's Court in Tororo postponed the recount of the Tororo district Woman MP vote to 27 January after finding two ballot boxes with broken seals and five with gaps in their sides. Akoth's lawyer asked the court to drop the recount and let the Electoral Commission gazette her client, while Opendi's lawyer said the damage could have happened during loading and should not block the recount.

Disputed: Akoth's lawyer says the damaged boxes show tampering and the recount should be dropped; Opendi's lawyer accepts the damage but says it could have come from handling and the recount should go ahead.
